Website content development is crucial if you want to know how to make money online over a long period of time.

There are people who design one and two page "sales sites" where they "plug" whatever it is they are selling and urge the reader to "buy now". There is nothing wrong with that and it works for some people and some products. It is probably most effective for people selling their own products as they get to earn money at home and maximize their profits for each sale. It may be less effective if you have to split the profits with another producer.

However, people still have to "find" these sites in order for sales to be made and that's where content comes in. If you build a website that is "content rich", you will eventually build a site that people will find easily and perhaps even re-visit often because it contains information that they are looking for. Not only that, but the search engines will find it as well.

By building a site that has lots of good information and is updated or added to on a regular basis, you create a site that people will return to and then from there you can send them to your sales pages.

It Is Not Get-Rich-Quick!

Remember though that this is not a "get rich quick" method. It takes time to build your site up to a content rich site. You probably need over 30 pages to achieve this and many successful sites will have over a hundred pages!

So, what you need to do is pick a topic that you have a passion for, which is not well covered already by someone and then break that topic down into 30 or more sub-topics that you can write about. The search engines then look at these sub-topics when people are trying to find information and if your site has the info somewhere, then it may be found. Of course, you use your "Brainstormer" and "Google Adwords" tools to help you name your second and third level pages to make it easy for the engines to find you. Beating The System?

Presently, there are people putting up websites without doing any website content development. They simply skim information from other sites electronically and use that. Some take the form of an index page. In other words, they simply are a list of other sites that people may be searching for. Some have actual content but it is simply regurgitated (again electronically) from other sites. And, many of these sites are getting high rankings! Because they seem to contain information that people are looking for, the engines sometimes even pick them over your content rich site.

However, I know now that at Google and probably at other search engines as well, these sites are being identified and will likely soon be removed because they don't have any genuine, original content. That is good news for those of us who produce our own content because it will mean that website content development will once again become the most important focus for successful website owners.

The refinement of search engines is an ongoing process and that is why the bigger ones employ hundreds of people whose job it is to continue to reward excellent sites over those that are simply trying to "beat the system".

So, if you want to know how to make money online over the long term, then make sure that your website content development never stops. It will ensure that sooner or later your site will rise to the top in your niche.
