Submit Your Website

This should be easy. Submit your website after picking a search engine friendly domain name containing the keyword from your site.

Well, it is easily said, however it's not so easily done, as you will see.

Once you've narrowed down your ideas to one concept that you think will make a good website topic and you've researched through all the tools (like Google Adwords) and you've been able to get a list of keywords that people use to search for sites like yours on the Internet, then its time to pick a domain name for your website.

To do that, just pick one of your keywords!

But Is The Keyword Available?

"Yeah, but what if someone else has already picked that word for their website?" Now you can't just submit your website. You've got a problem! In fact, a person doesn't even have to have a website to have "captured" your prize keyword! Lots of people make an Internet income just registering keywords in the registry and then selling them to people like you who want them for their websites.

OK, so what are we going to do?

Follow these Steps

First, go to Search It and under Step 1 pick "Domain Names" and under Step 2 pick "Check Domain Availability". Then under Step 3, type in your keyword. (Keep in mind that a good website name ends in ".com", ".org" or ".net". All other endings are generally not as strong as either of these 3. I highly recommend ".com" when you submit your website, if you can do it.)

Here is where you may have to put your "creative" hat on and start thinking outside the box. If you type in your keyword and it comes up with a ".com" ending. Get it! Chances are that won't happen.

In fact, I should regress just a little here and although this is all described in the FREE Ebook that I gave you (around page 77) you should note that when I talk about your "keyword", I could also be talking about your "keywords" because your "keyword" may actually be a combination of words, joined by hyphens.

Let me take you through my web naming process here and you can see how I ended up with http://www.winning-websites.com.

How I Ended Up With My Website Name

First, I thought I wanted to author a website about making money online because the recession had put a lot of people in a position where they need to make extra money and ideally, they would prefer to make it from home. So, I started with key words like "internet-income", "online-money", "internet-money", "extra-income", all of which were taken.

Next I started adding more words. "create-money-online", "produce-money-online" and "build-money-online", none of which had ".com" availability. I finally found one that was free - "how-to-make-money-on-the-internet.com". The problem was that it had way too many words in it! Nobody on the planet was going to type that into a search engine.

So, I started looking at other related keywords using the word "website" as a base. I came across "website-guru", "website-wonders", "website-wealth", "website-wizzard", etc., but none of them were available with a ".com" ending. (At this point I almost gave up and settled for a ".net" or a ".org".)

You should understand that this search took place over several days. It's not easy to do this at one sitting.

Finally I started using "websites" as a second word and came across "working-websites.com" and "winning-websites.com". Eureka! It made sense to me. It was not too long. It described fairly well what the site was about. It was available. I took it.

After I had written about 12 or 15 pages, I had a change of heart however and decided to stress the best websites on the Internet by category instead of just being another "how to" site. Thus, we have the website in its present form.

I hope I didn't bore you too much with this short story, but you should realize that deciding what you want to write about on your site and then finding a domain name that fits when you submit your website, is a long journey in most cases. Maybe you will be lucky and not have to go through such a long process, but be prepared for it just in case.

Go Do It!

So, pick your domain name and register it and start the online money process. You can do this from many sources where you can submit your website, including where you did the search. I used Site Build It to register my name because it is included in their program and they automatically re-register me each year to keep the domain registered in my name. (If you let it lapse, someone else could come in and scoop it from you!)

OK, get busy and start looking for a domain name that will work for you. The next page I post will be about the "Look and Feel" or design of your page. Don't miss it. Enter your first name and email address (on the top left) so that I can notify you when the page is posted or sign up for an RSS feed just below it.
