What's A Good Website?.

First off, the Internet is all about getting and giving information so I would think that one of the most important things to look at when trying to decide whether a website is good or bad is - does it give you the information you were looking for quickly and easily? It doesn't have to be on the first page (often called the "landing page") but if it is on another page in the site, can I quickly find that and go there? In other words, is it logically laid out so I can easily find my way around it? (Have you ever spent 10 minutes on a site trying to find something and come up empty handed?)

So, the number one consideration is: when you clicked on the site did you get what you wanted?

Look And Feel

Number two consideration might just be what Site Build It calls "Look and Feel". Is the site visually stimulating or is it just a mish-mash of colors and styles? Does it have photos or videos in it so that you don't have to continuously read? Your eyes need a break once in a while. Does it have "ads" all over it? Does it have so many "ads" that you can't even find what you're looking for? You know what I'm talking about.

Content

A third thing to think about is the content. Once you find the information that you were looking for, is it worthwhile? Some sites seem to be a collection of "gobblty-gook" with a bunch of keywords strewn about. (Keywords are the words that you use to search for things.) The owners of this kind of site hope you'll get sent there by a search engine and then click on one of their Google ads to get out of the site, so they can get paid for the click!

Recommendations?

A fourth and maybe final thing to consider is does it help you to further your search by recommending other related sites? If you're looking for a greeting card verse on a site that specializes in that, for example, does the site also tell you about sites that provide greeting cards? Things like that can save you time because you then don't have to keep starting up different searches for different, but related things you need.
