There are lots of sites in this area, so it is going to be difficult to pick the best travel websites. What I might have to do at some point is break this page up into several different areas (best cruise sites, best hotel sites, best flight sites, etc.) but for now, I'll combine them all and change it when it becomes unwieldy.

What makes a best travel site?

It seems to me that people are looking at travel websites for 3 or 4 different reasons. One might be just to get ideas about where to go and what to do. Once that is decided, then people may start looking at prices. That would likely be followed by availability and finally, that would be followed by somehow making the final arrangements.

So, a good travel website should at least cover those basic needs to be a good one.

No matter what the subject of the site is, there are certain basics that can make or break a website.    They provide bookings for flights, hotels, cars, cruises and activities and also provide some of the most flexible search features on the Internet.
   
   
3. Orbitz
   You can book flights and hotels from your mobile device here and get alerts about flight delays and cancellations emailed to you.
   
   
4. Priceline
   Priceline’s “Name Your Own Price” has revolutionized the way people book plane tickets, hotel rooms and car rentals.
   
   
5. Airgorilla
   In addition to booking the usual airfare, hotel room and car rental, AirGorilla also offers youth hostels, tours, safaris and GPS rental.
   
   
6. Onetravel
   Here you can book reservations for flights, hotels, cars and cruises but does not have the ability to book additional activities or train tickets.

   With CheapTickets you can book flights, hotels, cars, cruises, trains and activities.

   It has some of the best prices on the Internet, if you are willing to take a shot in the dark and not know the time you're flying or the airline you're on!
   
   
10. Kayak
    Kayak does not book flights, hotels or car rentals. Instead, they search all the popular travel sites like, Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz and more for you.
