Here Are The Best Sports Websites.

Your Comments Are Welcome.

It is going to be tough to pick the best sports websites because people who are passionately interested in a sport or a team will no doubt rank their team or sport and any websites related to them ahead of the rest. However, I think I'm going to make an executive decision here and say that regardless of your favorite sport, what we're looking for here are the best sports websites that report on all sports first, and then specialized websites will be ranked lower.

I suspect that most of the top sites are going to be related to sports networks. They have all the resources to produce good sites and they do!

I am biased!

Best Sports The other bias that I'm going to have here is that I will likely pick North American sites over others in the world and that's probably not fair. Just because soccer or rugby isn't my favorite sport doesn't mean that there aren't other sites in the world that focus on these sports that aren't good. It's just that I don't find them very interesting.

Maybe we'll have to split this category up into different areas in the future and rank the sites in each of the areas? For now, lets go with my biases.

What makes a good website?

No matter what the subject of the site is, there are certain basics that can make or break a website. They are all outlined here, so if you find what you think is a good sports site, then go to this page and make sure it covers the Internet basics for a good site before submitting it to us. (It covers things like "ease of navigation around the site" and "page loading", etc.)

Ok, go ahead and check out the best sports websites. Here they are.

  1. ESPN
They cover most everything well and have made a point to improve their site navigation so that you can find what you're looking for easily. It also has good writers and lots of videos.

  2. NBC Sports
Again, all sports are covered and they are easy to find. It is also kept up-to-date and includes timely reporting on a wide variety of sports from around the world.

  3. Sports Illustrated
It stands to reason that the best sports magazine would have a great website. I like having the scoreboard section at the top of the page so you can catch the latest scores fast. This is part of CNN.com so it is well heeled.

  4. TSN
This is Canada's sports network and I like it in the winter particularly because it features hockey news on the front page. (That's my favorite sport.) Of course, all sports are represented.

  5. ESPN the Magazine
This is of course related to the ESPN site but is much more "story related" and not so much fact reporting. In other words, you will find a lot of opinions here from the various writers.

  6. Fox Sports
Again, this is part of a huge network so, as you would expect, it is a fairly "slick" site and manages to cover the world pretty well.

  7. Deadspin
This will be the first of the "not so quickly recognized" sites. It is however an arm of The Gawker Network which is huge in the Internet world, so it is not to be trifled with. Lead stories dominate the top of the home page.

  8. CBS Sports
Another big network of course but the site itself is not that well laid out. You'll find all the important sports news here but you may have to look a bit for it.

  9. Yahoo Sports
Another big Internet Company that has gotten into sports. Its scoreboard is down the side rather than at the top. Other than that it is fairly standard.

  10. Onion Sports Network
The satirical new website Onion has a sports division now. You may find more controversy and opinion here than in the other sites however.

So, there they are, the best sports websites. What do you think? Do you have a better selection? Let us know in the form below.
